I don't know if there are post of this kind already if so it would be a pleasure if you could provide me a link to that post. But anyway i have finally bought me a copy of Vista... erm Home Basic. First download from Stardock is Object Dock freeware... since it isn't very specific if it works exclusively for Vista Premium and up, i tried installing it. However when i try to run it, window says Object Dock stopped working. and so on. I reset the PC and re run OD but still, it stopped working. Am i having incompatibility issues here? if so how can i resolve it?

Post Script. Logon Vista isn't working as well..... [e digicons]v_v[/e]  [e digicons]:S[/e]

I have installed the public version of WB on a new machine. However, everytime i run it, i get the message saying it is being blocked by an anti-spyware program......additionally, it provided me the option to run additional process which i did, but unfortunately, WB still doesn't work.  So what i did was to uninstall AVG antispy and reinstalled windowblinds public. well guess what, i still get the same message....and i still choose the option to run additional processes and still, WB doesn't work. Is there something wrong with my machine? or what....any assistance would be very much appreciated Thank you so much guys

Any advice from the experts? I have Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition and AVG installed in my PC. Should i run both simultaneously or should I run only one of them? If you recommend the latter case, which of the two anti-virus programs I have should i keep active? Thank you so much.

Ok so i know this isn't the right section to post this thread but i reckon this concern will attract those who are willing to help. It has been ignored in th Windowblinds Section :D

Something is wrong. I am attempting to create my first ever perpixel skin. everything is going so well with the skin but something is not right with the maximized window caption. when i apply the skin to test it, and when i maximize, say the "My Documents" window, the max caption bar can't be seen. all i see is the title text. even the window buttons are gone. Everything is fine with the rest of the window, the only problem is that max caption bar. What should I do?

I studied every single per pixel skin that i have, disected the max caption bar section in the UIS2 code and followed "verbatim" the specifications made with other skins. (Naturally i would be using Skinstudio to do that)However, it still doesn't resolve my problem. Please Help me...somebody, anybody... Thank you.
By the way I am using the free version of skinstudio and i do believe that it has the same function as that of the Professional version.

I wish that:

the blur effect can also be done with Transparent window borders(you see, it can be done with the transparent start menu). Wouldn't it be a great feature..

the oversized start button that looks great when the taskbar is at the bottom, would look the same way when the taskbar is at the top

the transparent window buttons' glow effect, would be as dramatic and subtle as that with those non-transparent window buttons (the way they do with WB4.6)

----------o0O O0o---------
and finally, i wish that these most revered programmers from Stardock would have immortality so they can bring to all people of all digital ages their great talents and gifts....

Ok so here goes. Lately, i have installed Winamp in my PC. You know how winamp works right. It can "PLAY" folders containing music files. at first i thought this was ok. so i didn't mind it. Then when i started to open folders, my player "ENQUEUEs" that folder. i thought it was a minor error but it persisted with EVERY folder i open. So as a last resort, i opened folder option to change the Default program that runs the folder when clicked. So when i chose folder and customized it, i was surprised to see that the option called OPEN was gone and all that was there are ENQUEUE, BOOKMARK, FIND, etc... but not open. Figured maybe i could "add" the option OPEN so its what i did with explorer.exe as the program. It went well at first but i started noticing cascading effects. First, when i open a folder inside a folder, it opens in another window. I know my settings and i specified OPEN FOLDER IN THE SAME WINDOW in the folder options. I know right on that there is something wrong. Second, all my Logonxp files, when clicked, do not automatically creates a folder an uzips the content in it. In fact, nothing happens. I tried loading logonxp files using Logonstudio but to no avail. Worse, i can't export my works. I tried unistalling and reinstalling but the problem still persist Third, wba files also have that problem. i can not even export skins using Skin Studio. I figured maybe i could just remove my entry in the Folder Options for FOLDERS file but all the buttons including DELETE are disabled except ADD. Now what do i do. I uninstalled Winamp too but nothing happens. I tried System Restore but to no avail. Help me please. I just want my PC to work the way it originally does. Now i guess my tweaking did great trouble in my personal computing. Is there a way that i could bring back the manipulation of my FOLDERS to default. How about tweaking the registry? would that help? but how. Please i need help desperately. ANYONE.

Creating a Bitmap_128

This tutorial is made to help understand how transparency and per pixel alpha blending is applied in bitmap_128 using Adobe Photoshop. To illustrate this, we will be using the bitmap_128 used in the Windows Vista Logon version 1.2 which can be downloaded here Link . Remember that in alpha channels or layers, black means transparent and white means solid. Any color between white and black would be semi-transparency of different levels.

1. First, create a new document with sufficient dimensions to hold all logon elements to be contained in the center panel. The commonly used dimension is 612 x 501. The background could either be white or any color or even transparent depending on your discretion.

2. Create a new layer and name it “Glass”. Press U to activate the shape tool . Choose the round rectangle tool and set it to 20px radius . Set your foreground to white and then draw your shape to the size you like onto the document.

3. Ctrl+click on the thumbnail of your “Glass” layer on the layers tab to make a selection exactly like the shape you just created. Go to the channels tab and create a new channel (its default name will be Alpha 1) .

4. To create a subtle shadow effect around your glass, set your foreground color to #636363. Press ctrl+alt+d to open feather selection window, set feather to 3 and press enter.

5. On your “Alpha 1” channel, press alt+backspace to fill the selection with the foreground color. Press ctrl+d to deselect.

6. to create that semi-transparent outline of the glass, go back to the layers tab and ctrl+click on the thumbnail of your “Glass” layer to select it. Return to channels tab, set your foreground this time to #c8c8c8. Press alt+backspace to fill the selection with the foreground color.

7. With your selection still on, go the Select menu, click modify, choose contract and set it to 1. Press ok.

8. Set your foreground color to #484848 and your background color to #282828. Press G to activate your gradient tool. Set gradient filling to Reflected Gradient and apply it on the image like here. Press ctrl+d to deselect.

That basically covers the main steps in creating transparent, per-pixel blended, glass-like bitmap_128. If you want to add more objects into the image, you can do so. Just go back to the layers tab and add your stuff there. But make sure that in your alpha channel, you specify whether these will have solid colors or semi-transparencies. To continue

9. In the Vista logon, notice the solid colors of the logo. It also has shadows. To accomplish that, you have to make another layer for the logo. Then Ctrl+click on its thumbnail to select it.

10. Go to the alpha channel and follow procedure #4.move your selection 4pixels left and 4 pixels down. Press alt+backspace. You will get something like this.

11. Now, go back to the layers tab and reselect the "logo" by control clicking on its thumbnail. Again return to the alpha channel; this time set the foreground to white. Press alt+backspace to fill the selection with white.

the complete alpha channel will look like this:

The actual image will look this way.

13. Finally, save the image bitmap_128 ;) as 32-bit bitmap.

Last tip, if you would like your centerpanel images to have shadows, I suggest you use black as background color of your bitmap_128. However, if shadows are not included, then any background color can do. I hope this simple tutorial helped.
